Local Cocktail start up Myatt’s Fields Cocktails celebrates its 1st Birthday
Lambeth residents Clemency & Cyrus started Myatt’s Fields Cocktails a year ago. They are named after the much loved park where they live. The company was formed when the loved up couple were looking for an affordable option for serving cocktails at their own wedding which had a whopping 160 guests. After exploring multiple options they decided to mix and age their own selection of drinks for the big day including negronis, manhattans, martinis and even an espresso martini. After the joy of the nupitals, the then honeymooning pair realised they had more messages about the fabulous cocktails than any other part of the wedding. By the time they returned to Brixton after 6 weeks of backpacking in South America they had a fledgling business plan and set about doing more research into the drinks they wanted to produce.
Clemency said “the first few months were centred on R&D, Health & Safety and Compliance. Lambeth Council bent over backwards to be helpful and supportive. I had a negative preconception that was proved completely wrong. They worked closely with us to breathe life into the business and help us understand all the requirements on us to trade correctly.”
Cyrus focussed on developing the range of drinks which now includes eight cocktails and a Limoncello. “We focus on drinks that benefit from being aged” said co-founder Cyrus. Really good classics like a Manhattan and a Negroni are in the repertoire. As the Vermouth oxidises it really helps develop the flavour of the drink for the better. They also have their own twist on classics such as a Rum Old Fashined and a Vesper Martini made with their own Cinchona Bark and Vodka infusion. Their best seller is an Espresso Martini.
Clemency added “pre-mixed drinks were traditionally a dumping ground for cheap ingredients which is why they tasted so awful and deservedly had a poor reputation. We are part of a new generation of producers who are crafting our cocktails with beautiful spirits and really understanding how the ingredients develop with ageing.”
Last year Myatt’s Fields Cocktails could be found popping up at the Myatt’s Fields Summer Fair, Stockwell Festival and Venn St Market. Their crafted cocktails have proved popular and they now ship throughout the UK from their website www.myattsfields.london
